The association was founded
in 1992, inherited by the provincial city of Coruña and established
by the parish priest of O Cebreiro, D. Elias Valiño Sampedro.
Among its recent achievements:
the restoration and signposting of the English routes in Galicia, (Neda
– Santiago), Portuguese, (Ponte de Lima – Santiago), Ourense, (Puebla de
Sanabria – Santiago por Laza) and the prolongation to Fisterra and Muxia.
In October 1999 the V International Jacobean Association Congress
will
be held.
The objectives of
our association are:
1. To promote and defend
the Jacobean spirit.
2. To pay atention to
installations and institutes prepared and dedicated to the help of pilgrims.(The
creation of roadhouses, lodgings, shelter...).
3. The routes and environment
survey research and cultural history publications.
4. Activities
through means of organisms and institutes, either public or private in
relation to defense, conservation and patrimony protection of the route
of Santiago (Galicia) cultural – history).
5. To promote any type
of activities, such as cultural activities, conferences, congresses, trips,
pilgrimage,etc.
6. Information and advice
to pilgrims and all those people or organizations which show an interest
towards the route of Santiago.
7. Collaboration with Jacobean
societies and other associations with similar objectives.
8. Physical and documental
recovery. (The route of Santiago).
9. Pilgrims´aid,
assistance and promotion of the traditional pilgrimage.
