| Dombate,
symbol of Galicia
Bard Eduardo Pondal declared the Dombate's
Dolmen as symbol of Galicia:
Agora
que pasan os meus anos xogorales,
agora
que so vivo de tristes suidades,
que
cumpro con traballo meu terrenal viaxe,
e
que a mina cabeza branquea a grave edade,
ainda
recordo, ainda, o Dolmen de Dombate.
Now,
my happy years are passing by,
now,
I only with of sad solitudes,
I
hardly can complete my earthly trip,
and
that my head whitens because of the age,
I
still remember, still, the Dolmen of Dombate.
Dombate's Dolmen is one of the best conserved
Galician megalithic monuments; It is formed by one 4 mts long cover
and seven 3 mts high vertical stones, and it is dated from the year
3000 b.C., between the latest Neolithic
Age and the Copper Age. The dolmen's inscriptions are considered
by the archaeologists as one of the most important in European
megalithic paintings.
Some
human form idols were found as well in the dolmen's entrance. 5.000
years after its construction, Borneiro's spiritual life has turned
to Nosa Senora do Carme's chapel and to the 8 crosses spared
along the parish, an uncommon concentration of these archaic carved
stones.
