 The
Barca de Muxia Festival is a very
old cult celebration which is still celebrated today, gathering together
a tremendous
amount of parishioners who visit the Barca Sanctuary to worship the
stone and to walk under the
"Pedra dos Cadris". These stones are thought to have curative properties
which call out the people´s solidarity.
Those who get on top of the stone without coordination will notice
that it does not move.
Throughout
time this festival has become the most important procession within
the Costa da Morte; a meeting
place to all those young people from different parts of the Costa
da Morte. Thousands of young people
visit Muxia on Saturdays, and
stay here until the early hours of dawn, dancing and enjoying
the magnificient Muxian atmosphere, hence
every year curious scenes can be seen of those young people
who come
to the festival mixing in with those who go to the Sanctuary Liturgical
acts.
