Camarinas' fiord, sheltered by capes Ponta da Barca and Vilan, is a clear example of the Costa da Morte's small fiords. Camarinas backs an unfriendly natural area where the spectacular Vilan lighthouse is a sleepless witness of hundred of shipwrecks and solitary inhabitant of this dramatically beautiful coast.  
  
Although the origin of the Camarinas' Celtic settlement is very old, the most excellent historical moment for the village can be pointed in the middle ages: the intense trade that the Kingdom of Galicia maintained with Flanders allowed the import of an embroidery technique that has been conserved until now.  
  
The lace making was adopted as own technique in the Soneira's region, surviving until present times in Vimianzo, Muxia and Camarinas. The characteristic lace activity of Camarinas, previously restricted to the domestic self-production, has acquired great fame in Galicia and in some international markets. 

It is still possible to observe the duality of dynamic exporter companies coexisting with the traditional activity of the " palilleiras ", women of great dexterity in the lace making. In good weather days, the palilleiras work in the streets next to their houses, conforming a commun picture for the villagers' eyes but certainly unusual to the tourist. 

The Camarinas' economy depends equally of the dynamism of its fishing port, one of the most important of Galicia. The contrast between the tradition and the modern is manifested once again: in front of the canning industries can be observed the old process of fish sun drying.  
  
Camarinas' harbour was enlarged using the stones of the Soberan's Castle, built in the 18 century to defend the creek of pirate attacks. There are few remains conserved of the castle since  they have even used their cannons for the mooring of ships in the quay.  
  
Traditional celebrations in the place are the Virxe do Carme, sea procession in July, and the Festa do Encaixe (Lace Exhibition) in spring, when Camarinas is proud to show its peculiar product and the superb creations of clothes, sheets, etc.
